Plans for a new town centre bus lane and upgrades to a key junction have been hailed as the next ‘big step’ towards work starting on Stockport’s £120m transport interchange.
Under the proposals Heaton Lane would become a camera-enforced ‘busway’ with all other vehicles – bar bicycles and taxis – banned from travelling in either direction.
Also in the pipeline are a series of improvements to the A6/Heaton Lane junction, making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The move would enable Heaton Lane Car Park to operate as a stop-gap bus station while work is completed on the new interchange at the current site
